What the course covers

A1 is the starting point and it assumes you know nothing. You learn pronunciation, how to introduce yourself, order food, ask for directions, and follow someone speaking slowly.

A2 builds on that. You learn the past and future tenses, which is what lets you talk about your week, book appointments, and handle everyday errands.

Both levels use the same syllabus our tutors use for B1, B2 and TEF preparation, so nothing you learn gets dropped when you move up. On the Canadian scale, A1 is roughly NCLC 1 to 2, and A2 is NCLC 3 to 4.

Schedule and fees

Two ways to take the beginner French course in Brampton. Both cover the same material, so the choice comes down to budget, pace, and how fixed your evenings are.

Prices in Canadian dollars per month. Both options are available in person in Brampton or live online.

You do not need any French to enrol. A short assessment places you at A1, or higher if you studied the language at some point and it partly stuck.

25 to 50 CRS points

If you are learning French for PR

Most of our Brampton students are working toward permanent residence. French adds points to a CRS profile once you reach NCLC 7 in all four skills, which is roughly B2 level.

The path from here is A2, then B1 and B2, then a few weeks of exam preparation before you book a TEF or TCF test.

Worth knowing early: there is no French exam centre in Brampton. Most of our students write at the Alliance Française campus in Mississauga, at 4261 Sherwoodtowne Blvd, about half an hour away. There are also centres in downtown Toronto, North York and Oakville. Sittings fill up several weeks ahead, so book early.

Common questions

Do I need any French to start the beginner course?

No. A1 assumes you have never studied it. If you did study French at some point, we will do a short assessment first and you might start at A2 or B1 instead.

How long does the beginner French course take?

About one and a half to two months per level, so three to four months for A1 and A2 together. One-on-one students usually move a bit faster.

Are the classes in Brampton in person or online?

Both. In-person classes run at 499 Main St S in Brampton, and the same curriculum runs live online in the same time slots. Many students mix the two.

I work full time. Can I still do this?

Yes, and that describes most of our students. Group classes run in morning (8 a.m.–12 p.m.) and late-evening (8 p.m.–midnight) windows for exactly that reason.

Should I take group or private classes?

Group classes cost less and give you people to practise speaking with. Private classes in Brampton cost more but move at your pace and are easier to schedule around shift work. Plenty of students start in a group and add private sessions later.
