Best Beginner's French Course in Mississauga

Beginner French Course in Mississauga — Start from Scratch

Picture four months from now: you introduce yourself in French, handle a store conversation, describe your week in the past tense. That is what finishing A1 and A2 looks like — and it is the standard outcome of TFA’s beginner program for Mississauga students. No prior French needed, no downtown commute: classes meet live online on weekday evenings, taught by certified instructors who work with absolute beginners every single day.

Two levels, one syllabus

The beginner journey splits into A1 — the true zero level, where pronunciation, introductions and survival phrases live — and A2, where past and future tenses turn fragments into real conversation. Each takes about 1.5 to 2 months. Both run on the same in-house syllabus that continues seamlessly into B1, B2 and eventually exam preparation, so switching schools mid-journey never becomes necessary. In Canadian terms, A1–A2 covers NCLC 1 through 4: the foundation layers beneath the NCLC 7 that PR applicants ultimately chase.

Schedules that fit Mississauga commutes

Most of our Mississauga beginners work full days, so the default format is the 8–9 pm ET weeknight group: 4–5 students, twenty one-hour classes a month, enough repetition to make French stick without eating your weekend. Prefer flexibility or a faster pace? One-on-one sessions run mornings and evenings and adapt to shift patterns.

Group option$275/month — 20 classes, small evening groups
Private option$325/month (12 classes) or $450/month (20 classes), flexible hours
A1 + A2 durationRoughly 3–4 months combined
Starting requirementNone — A1 assumes zero French

Where this leads

For many Mississauga students, beginner French is step one of a PR plan: A1–A2 here, then B1 & B2, then TEF & DELF exam prep, then a test booking — conveniently, at the accredited Alliance Française centre on Sherwoodtowne Blvd right in Mississauga. NCLC 7 across all four skills can add 25–50 CRS points. Others simply want French for work, travel or family; the course serves both without ceremony.

Starting-from-zero FAQs

I failed high-school French years ago. Does that matter?

Not at all — A1 rebuilds from the ground up. And if more stuck than you think, the placement assessment may start you at A2 and save you a level.

What can I realistically say after A2?

Handle errands, appointments and directions, talk about your past week and your plans, and hold a simple conversation with a patient speaker — elementary French, honestly earned.

Are beginner classes in Mississauga in-person or online?

Live online in Eastern time, which is what makes the weeknight schedule workable across the GTA. In-person arrangements can be discussed on request.

How do I know the teaching is good?

TFA holds a 4.8-star average across 300+ Google reviews — several quoted on this page — and every prospective student starts with a demo class before committing.
