How private French tutoring works
- Book a 60-minute demo class. It is a full one-hour class with a C1/C2 instructor. In that hour you get an assessment of your current level, a personalized roadmap from A1 to B2, the step-by-step syllabus to reach CLB 7, and your schedule, questions and enrollment details answered. You choose a slot, whether morning or evening, and we match you with a private French tutor who will actually take your regular classes.
- Enroll and meet your tutor.Choose Balanced Individual Classes or Fast-Track Private Classes, either in mornings or evenings. You receive a welcome email with your class schedule, your tutor’s introduction and all learning materials: practice exams, grammar guides, vocabulary lists and audio resources. Your first class is scheduled within 24 to 48 hours. If the tutor is not the right fit, you can switch; if you decide not to continue before your first class, you get a full refund.
- Follow the syllabus, level by level.Live one-hour classes on Google Meet take you through a structured A1 to B2 syllabus at your own pace, with TEF and TCF training built in across all four sections: compréhension orale, compréhension écrite, expression orale and expression écrite. Homework, assignments and regular tests after class track your progress, and every class is recorded.
A 60-minute lesson runs in French: you speak from the start, your tutor corrects as you go, you work through the day’s lesson, and you leave with homework and the recording.

Who our French tutoring is for
Our private French classes are designed for adults in Canada who are serious about learning French. We help two main groups of learners:
- Exam Candidates: Adults preparing for the TEF Canada or TCF Canada exams to earn points for permanent residency.
- General Learners: Beginners starting at level A1 and intermediate learners who feel stuck and want to break through to the next level.
What happens in a 1-on-1 French class
A private class is an active hour of learning. Here is what you can expect:
- Speaking from the start: You will speak French from the first minute of class. Your French tutor will guide the conversation, introduce new vocabulary and grammar, and correct your errors as they happen.
- Weekly corrected tasks: Each week, you will complete one writing task and one speaking task. Your tutor will provide detailed corrections, helping you understand your mistakes and improve for the next time.
- Exam preparation: If you are preparing for TEF or TCF, your French classes will include timed mock interviews and practice tests to build your confidence and stamina for the real exam.
Pro tip: Keep a notebook of the sentences your tutor corrects during class. Review these sentences regularly. They are a personalized guide to your most common mistakes and how to fix them.

Why hire a private French tutor?
Adults choose private French tutoring when they have a specific goal and need to see results. Group classes have their place, but one-on-one instruction offers a level of focus and personalization that a general course can’t match.
- Every hour is dedicated entirely to you. In a class, a teacher’s attention is divided among many students. With a private French tutor, their expertise is concentrated on your progress alone.
- We build the lesson plan around your objective. If you’re preparing for a specific exam, such as the TEF or TCF, we structure every session around its format, question types, and required competencies. You won’t waste time on material that isn’t relevant to your success.
- The instruction is personalized to your actual needs. A French tutor quickly spots the patterns in your mistakes: the verb tenses you confuse, the prepositions you misplace, the pronunciation errors you repeat. We then create targeted exercises to correct these habits at their source, which is far more effective than a generic grammar lesson.
- You set the pace. If you grasp a concept quickly, we move on. If you need more time on a difficult point, we stay with it until you’re confident. Every minute is used efficiently.
- French comes easier and faster. Because the learning is so targeted, you overcome your personal hurdles and build confidence with the language more quickly than you would in a standardized setting.
A general class, by necessity, is different. The lesson is prepared for a room of students, not for an individual. It’s delivered at a single, predetermined pace, and the curriculum moves on to the next topic whether you’ve fully understood the last one or not.
How to start: the demo class
The best way to see if our tutoring is right for you is to try it. We offer a full 60-minute demo class with your future instructor.
You book the demo at the same time you would take your regular classes. This way, you can meet your tutor and experience the class exactly as it would be. We will send you a Google Meet link by email.
Once you enroll, we schedule your first class within 24 to 48 hours. You will receive a welcome email with your schedule, an introduction to your tutor, and all your learning materials.
Pro tip: Book your demo class in the morning or evening time slot that you know you can keep for the next several months. This ensures a smooth start and a consistent schedule.
FAQ
Is a private French tutor worth it?
A private French tutor is worth it if you want to make measurable progress. With a private tutor, every hour is focused on your specific needs. Your speaking is constantly corrected, and your writing is reviewed in detail. This targeted feedback is difficult to get through self-study or in a large group, and it is what helps you improve quickly.
How much do private French lessons cost?
In Toronto, private French lessons commonly cost between $50 and $70 per hour. Tutors on online marketplaces can be found for about $20 per hour, but this often does not include materials or a structured curriculum. Our private French classes cost about $27 to $31 per hour, and this price includes all books, materials, mock tests, and class recordings.
Can I reach CLB 7 with a private tutor only?
Yes, it is possible to reach CLB 7 with a private tutor. CLB 7 in all four abilities is a common target for Express Entry. Most of our students who are preparing for TEF or TCF Canada reach their target scores within 8 to 10 months of consistent study in our private tutoring programs.
Do you offer in-person French tutoring?
No, we do not offer in-person tutoring. All our classes are conducted live online via Google Meet. This allows us to connect you with a certified tutor regardless of your location in Canada and provides the flexibility of learning from home.
Can I change my tutor?
Yes, you can change your tutor. We match you with an instructor based on your profile, but we understand that finding the right fit is important. If you wish to try a different tutor, you can make a request and we will arrange it for you.
